Optimization of a Novel Zero-Emission Provisional Microgrid: A UCCS Campus Case Study

Spring 2025

Project Overview

Project Coordinator & Sponsor: Tarek Masaud, Ph.D

Responsible Department: Electrical and Computer Engineering

Total GAF Funding: $5,000

Themes: Energy Costs, Renewable Electricity Generation, Carbon Microgrids

Goal: Design novel zero-emission provisional microgrid (PMG) that operates solely on renewable energy and exchange power and trade hydrogen (H₂) in both islanded and grid-connected modes, thereby advancing zero-emission goals.

Impact:  Introduce the zero-emission PMG as a new platform for achieving 100% renewable energy.
