Native Insect Response to Environmental Changes

Spring 2024 Department of Biology

Project Overview

Project Coordinator: Heron Lenz

Project Sponsor: Emily Mooney, Associate Professor

Responsible Department: Biology

Total GAF Funding: $4,800.00

Themes: Research, Wildlife, Conservation, Climate

Goal: Goal: To raise awareness of diverse species interactions on campus and promote sustainable practices that support these interactions.

Impact: Over 10 weeks, 11 researchers collected 107 observations of 41 insect species on and around campus. Data collected helped create a better understanding of how temperature impacts ant-aphid interactions, the relationship between aphid abundances and deer feeding patterns, and wasp floral visitation.
