Mountain Lion Tech Recycling
Mountain Lion Tech Recycling
Project Overview
October is National Cyber Security Month. In 2018, OIT held an e-waste shred-a-thon in which 2475 pounds of Computer material, 522 pounds of display material, 1497 pounds of general e-waste, and 516 base materials were shredded and recycled. This was a huge success, but the department felt that more could be done. The intent behind this event was to engage the campus with technology. The goal of this tech-filled day was to provide an interactive, hands-on experience for faculty, staff, and students and connect them to technologies available to advance their missions. 2019's theme is Work Smarter not Harder with Technology.
Historically, OIT has been in the background of the campus. As long as technology and Wi-Fi are up and running, we do not hear from the campus. The intent of this day was to showcase the technology that is available on campus, answer questions from our stakeholders (the campus), receive input and feedback, and allow people to interact with OIT in a new way. The day featured a hackathon for our students, vendors, workshops, data center tour, and guest speakers.
