SDH Going for Net Zero
SDH Going for Net Zero
Project Overview
The goal of the UCCS Sustainability Demonstration House was to retrofit a 2000 vintage, 5 bedroom, over 4,000 sq. ft. house, to be as energy efficient as possible (Net Zero) and to highlight to students, (future homeowners) changes they can make in their own homes. We aimed to transform this modern house into an interactive, educational platform to engage the UCCS and local community on the impact their homes have on their personal carbon footprint. It is meant to be an educational center, where projects are described and documented and students are involved in research projects. This included Waterwise landscape and irrigation design, a solar photovoltaic system with a battery backup, efficiency demonstrations, an edible garden, a solar EV charging carport, and many more sustainability features and demonstrations.
