Project Overview
The UCCS Wellness Center includes a teaching kitchen which is used for educational programming around healthy food choices, proper food preparation, and overall healthy living. Any student, class, group, or organization can request a cooking demo, class, or sampling program. The Wellness Center’s budget at that time was limited to which results in a restriction of funds were available for purchasing ingredients and products. Thanks to Green Action Funding in 2018, they were able to provide two free cooking classes a month to students, supply ingredients for several large outreach events, and provide demonstrations to 265 freshman through their GPS class. Wellness Center received another year of GAF funding, they were able to continue to use those funds to focus their spending on local, organic, and higher quality foods, through our partnership with SWELL. In 2018, they were able to purchase our ingredients through Arkansas Valley Organic Growers.
