Zero Hero

Fall 2015-Zero Waste + Education

Project Overview

A ZeroHero waste station is a specialized tent that is placed over trash cans to “hide” the bins and give extra space for visuals. It holds three 50 gallon bins. The ZeroHero has a zipper in the back to allow easy access to the bins when they are in use. There are three premade holes in the front of the tent for participants to access the bins as well as a side pocket to place cardboard, which is collected separately on our campus and produces a revenue stream. The ZeroHero has preprinted labels; Recycle, Compost, Trash as well as four Velcro pieces next to each to attach event specific visuals. The ZeroHero protects the bins from winds, contains any items that falls out of the bins and gives waste stations a uniform appearance. The project's intent was to increase awareness of our zero waste initiative at outdoor events, by increasing containment, education, and diversion rates here at UCCS.
