Developing and Testing Methodology on the Evaluation of Air Pollution Data Transparency
Developing and Testing Methodology on the Evaluation of Air Pollution Data Transparency
Project Overview
Coordinator(s): Irina Kopteva
Responsible Department: Geography and Environmental Studies
Themes: Research, Education
Goal: This is a faculty and student-led research project. This project aims to reveal data gaps and their origin by assessing three social facets of emissions disclosure provided by (1) the scientific community, (2) governmental agencies, and (3) mass media along with civil society.
Impact: By cross-examining publications available in library archives and online repositories, the project will measure environmental transparency at national scale at early and late (1970 and 2022) stages of mandated air pollution monitoring. This novel approach will contribute to information transparency and evaluate the state of environmental governance in different political systems.
